Urban Bazaar

This weekend, we dropped off some Bicycle notecards (the new rainbow pack) and Asian Language Thank You Cards at Urban Bazaar in the Inner Sunset Neighborhood.  Urban Bazaar is the first brick and mortar shop that will be selling our cards here in San Francisco.  Yay!

Brandi and Briana (also artists and fellow Etsians) just opened their gift store Urban Bazaar at the end of July.  The shop's focus is on Fair Trade and locally handcrafted accessories and home decor items.  When I stopped by the shop on Sunday, I saw a lot of cute and interesting stuff.  My favorite were the beautiful wood wall clocks with screenprinted designs (I wish I had brought my camera).  Other things I liked were the jewelry, the small line of graphic baby onesies and the mix of cards and prints.  They also have a garden area in the back and it will be interesting to see how they'll utilize that space in the future.

Urban Bazaar is located at:
1371 9th Ave
(between Irving St & Judah St)
San Francisco, CA 94122

Go check it out!  It's right on the muni line and near Golden Gate Park.  Arizmendi Bakery is just down the street too.  Yum.

Room and Board

Today, we said goodbye to our Room and Board Encore couch.  They don't sell it in brown anymore, but this is what it looks like.
Encore Sofa
We bought this style, because the doorway to our old apartment was really narrow and this was the only sofa that would fit through the door.  The seats fold down to create a full size bed  and that is how we got it in through the door.  We figured it would be good for guests too.

After about a year, the middle of the sofa began to compress.  The foam in the seat provided less and less cushion and you could feel the metal bars through it.  Sad.  The situation got worse and worse, but we figured when we moved one day, we'd just put it in a guest room and use it there.  We finally moved after owning the couch for about 3 years and we took the sofa with us, but I decided to write to Room and Board to express our disappointment in the short life of the seat cushions.  We couldn't even really use the couch anymore due to the level of uncomfortableness.

A design consultant responded to my email within 48 hours and told me to call the San Francisco store.  I spoke with Joe Darling, a design consultant in the store, and he asked me to send in photos of the couch.  After we did that, Joe explained to me that Room and Board would send drivers to pick up my couch and to check out the damage and that I would be given store credit to use towards the purchase of new Room and Board merchandise.  For each year that you own the couch, they deduct 10% of the purchase price from the credit.  Then, they check for any other damage or stain to decide if they should deduct more.

The drivers came today to take our sofa away. The visit took less than 10 minutes and the drivers were very courteous and professional.  So, although Mr.CP and I were very disappointed with the quality of the couch we purchased, we are very appreciative of how Room and Board customer service handled the situation.

Friday Lottery List

This Friday, my picks are from Kate Spade's new collection:

This dress is professional enough for work, but the tweed print is just bold enough to make a statement...and of course, it has all the fun feminine flourishes that Kate Spade's clothing line is known for.  Just think of all the bright colored cardigans or shoes you could pair it with....

or coats....I'll admit it, I'm a black/gray kind of person, so I probably wouldn't wear a purple coat very often, but I love how the ruffles look on this colorful jacket.

The beginnings of a new idea

I started thinking yesterday about possibly designing a 2011 gocco printed calendar.  Anyone familiar with the rising costs of gocco supplies knows that this is just crazy talk.  Anyhow, I'm imagining a desk calendar that would consist of twelve 5"x7" prints that are separate sheets rather than bound together.

Here is an example of the type of calendar I am describing:
Stelie Designs
Some come with a little jewel case like this one or sometimes people pin up each month as the the time comes.  My idea is to have Mr. CP design a wooden block with a slot that the cards can stand in.  It seems a little more substantial and natural than clear plastic.  I've also seen some small easels that might work, but they might be a tad short for a 5"x7" print.

Each month's print would be a different color and contain a theme related to that month.  I also toyed around with having the colors relate to birthstones as well.  All this would require a minimum of 12 screens and 24 bulbs though....ouch.  And if I am going to have these ready for people to purchase by the gift-giving season, I'd have to get started pronto!
